Style Tips: Five Ways To Style A Blazer

Blazers are a staple in any closet, especially a capsule wardrobe. They effortlessly dress up an outfit, can add a pop of color, and are very versatile! I believe that every woman should have a few of these secret weapons in their closet. For this month’s Style Tips, I’ll be showing you a few of my favorite ways to style blazers. Fashion blogging/Instagram aside, I actually wear my blazers a TON and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. Make sure you check out January’s Style Tips: Five Ways To Style A Silk Blouse, too! All of the outfit details will be linked at the bottom of the post. 🙂

A Chic Moment

If you’ve been reading my blog and/or following me on Instagram, it’s no secret that my favorite style is chic! With that being said, it comes to no surprise that I included a classic chic blazer look. 🙂

Leave it unbuttoned to have a more casual vibe.

I did step out of the box a little and chose my classy white blazer for this look as opposed to a traditional black. I paired it with some other neutrals and a bold, snakeskin print heel to add some unexpected spice. The white blazer adds an extra level of sophistication to the outfit and makes the look appear put together. This was taken in St. Tropez (hint hint on a future post!), and it just had the perfect south of France chic vibe.

Belt That Blazer!

belted blazer styling
Belting your blazer is an easy way to add shape to your silhouette.

Belting a blazer is nothing new, but it so happens that it’s extremely on trend right now! If you hop on over to social media, you’ll see every fashion influencer rocking a blazer with a belt. As a side note, oversized blazers are all the rage this season, so keep that in mind if you like to follow trends, but still be stylish when the trend fades. 🙂

While this look is timeless, I love that it’s on trend! The reason for that is because belting your blazer defines your waist and gives the illusion of an hourglass figure. Or, if you already have one like I do, then it further emphasizes it. It’s a flattering look on just about everyone in my opinion.

You eye is instantly attracted to the belt and your waist.

I chose a gold chain belt to give a bit more excitement to the look, but any belt would work. You could do for a thin chain, a pop of color or print, or even a thick waist belt and flaunt your beautiful figure! Finally, a style tip for you. If you select a pair of shorts that are the same color as your blazer, you can give the illusion of wearing a blazer dress without having to purchase one! It also removes the worry of having an ‘oops’ moment since they’re shorts. You could also add some tights for those colder days, too.

Monochrome Moment

If you didn’t already know, I LOVE monochrome looks. It’s a very easy way to look expensive and fashionable. Black is my favorite color (I’m a happy person, I swear!!) and I really like pairing my blacks with gold. Those two colors were just made for each other.

Black & Gold – they go together like PB&J.

In this case, I went in with one of my black and gold pleated skirts and booties for an unexpected twist. It’s not a look you see every day, but it looks great and truly boosts your confidence! At least, it did for me.

The blazer itself is a straight up Balmain dupe. I was SHOOK when I went on Express and saw this one. They did a really good job with it and it does the trick until I decide to invest in the real deal. I do find these black and gold button blazers more difficult to dress down, so I wouldn’t recommend purchasing this style of blazer until you already have one or two more ‘wearable’ styles in your wardrobe.

Over Your Shoulders

Draping your blazer over your shoulders is another easy way to make your outfit look more expensive, fashionable, and put together. This works great with coats and jackets, too. I tend to do this with bright blazers, like this bold red, instead of my neutral ones. I really love the pop of color it gives and I find it to be a nice, easy twist to the style.

She means business.

Style tip! If you’re like me, you find that draping blazers (or coats/jackets) over your shoulders is a struggle because they always fall off! Well, get yourself a safety pin and pin the blazer to your shirt and that should help with the falling. 🙂 Just be careful with the materials and always practice it at home before going out and potentially having a disaster happen!

A low key pop of red.

My Louboutin booties were perfect to add an extra pop of red and tie the whole look together. Style Tip! I’d recommend matching your shoes to your blazer if you’re going for the pop of color look. You could also dress this down a bit for spring by switching the black jeans for shorts and swapping the booties for a pair of sandals.

Casual Blazer Style

Effortlessly fashionable, am I right?! Blazers are magical!

For my final blazer styling inspiration, here is a simple and casual look for you. A blazer doesn’t have to result in dressing up. You can easily pair some relaxed jeans, white sneakers, a plain top and finish it all off with a boyfriend style blazer. While it’s more of a low key outfit, it’s still elevated. This is also a great outfit if you’re into the tomboy fashion style.
